The year in review you were not expecting

All the platforms have a year in review feature. They all showcase the best of this year. But was it THAT good? Here’s my thought-provoking and demotivational take on this.

The truth is 2021 was supposed to be better. But was it?

In the last months, we’ve witnessed The Great Resignation, also known as the Big Quit. Most companies that praised remote work in 2020, started to ask their teams to come back to the office, no matter what.
And Covid-19 kept mutating, like a MF (excuse my word) leading to thousands of people being lost.

The truth is that 2021 was an overwhelming and tiring year, and people started to focus more and more on their mental health (finally!) and have different standards.

And while most people are sharing how much they achieved this year (and I congratulate each and every one of you), I want to make this post for the ones who do not feel like this was all shiny and bright.

It’s ok to be tired. It’s ok to NOT be productive all day long. It’s ok to take a break and get some me-time. It’s ok to prioritize yourself. And, most of all, it’s absolutely ok (And recommended) to spend more time with your dear ones.

If there is one lesson that we’ve all learned, is that time is actually passing by faster than we thought. And we should use it wisely.

I will end this post with an exercise: take a bit of time to run a personal retrospective (yeah, similarly to a sprint retro) and analyze your experiences in 2021 — the 4Ls are a great go-to: Liked, learned, lacked, longed for.
Highlight what you want to invest in more and start with small (recurring) steps.

Discipline overpowers fear, do not forget that. Sometimes motivation and excitement are low, ‘cuz we’re only humans, but discipline keeps you going.

Make your next year a good one, no matter what you aim for!
